Integrating Cognitive Simulation into the Maryland Virtual Patient
This paper briefly describes four cognitively-related aspects of modeling a virtual patient: interoception, decision-making, natural language processing and learning. These phenomena are treated within the Maryland Virtual Patient simulation and training environment.
متن کاملCognitive Modeling for Clinical Medicine
This paper describes some functionalities and features of the Maryland Virtual Patient (MVP) environment. MVP models the process of disease progression, diagnosis and treatment in virtual patients who are endowed with a “body,” a simulation of their physiological and pathological processes, and a “mind,” a set of capabilities of perception, reasoning and action that allow the virtual patient to...
متن کاملAspects of Metacognitive Self-Awareness in Maryland Virtual Patient
This paper describes Maryland Virtual Patient (MVP), a simulation and tutoring environment developed to support training cognitive decision making in clinical medicine. MVP is implemented as a society of agents, with one role – that of the trainee – played by a human and other roles played by artificial intelligent agents. In order to make the trainee’s experience as similar as possible to the ...
متن کاملMaryland Virtual Patient: A Knowledge-Based, Language-Enabled Simulation and Training System
Maryland Virtual Patient (MVP) is system aimed at training medical personnel in certain aspects of clinical medicine. The user plays the role of attending physician and is tasked with diagnosing and treating virtual patients (VPs), with or without the help of a virtual tutor. Each VP is composed of both a realistically functioning physiological side and a reasoning – and languageenabled cogniti...
متن کاملA Simulated Physiological/Cognitive "Double Agent"
This paper describes the cognitive capabilities of artificial intelligent agents in Maryland Virtual Patient (MVP), an environment that provides interactive, open-ended simulations of virtual patients for the training of medical personnel. The environment is implemented as an agent network that includes one human agent – the user – and a network of artificial agents. Some of the artificial agen...
